- COMPANY---LEFT/RIGHT--- FACE
On the command RIGHT FACE, all the 1’s will turn right, while all the 2’s will turn right and then step into the gap, to the right of the man in front. On the command LEFT FACE, all the 2’s will turn left, while all the 1’s will turn left and then step into the gap, to the left of the man in front.
Below are the movements that we will mainly concentrate on and brief explanation.
- BY BATTALION – INTO LINE – MARCH.
The battalion being in a column of 4s will form a battalion battle line to their front.
- BY THE LEFT FLANK--- MARCH
The battalion being in a column of 4s will turn to the left and form a battle line of 2 ranks. Commonly known as ‘ front on the march’.
- BY THE RIGHT --- BY FILES INTO LINE--- MARCH.
A command that needs a lot of practice. This is to form a battle line of 2 ranks facing your right in the correct order as you originally formed up.
- BATTALION/ COMPANIES – FORWARD/ QUICK TIME/ DOUBLE QUICK TIME -- MARCH
The forward is a slow march. Quick is about walking speed. Double quick is a slight jog.
- BATTALION/ COMPANIES --- LEFT/ RIGHT WHEEL --- MARCH
On the command of either wheel the soldier on that pivot/ side will turn slightly and the rest of the battle line with the help of Officers and file markers will bring it round without a bend in the line. Remember lean in look out.
- BATTALION/ COMPANIES --- RIGHT ABOUT --- MARCH
This will be done on the march. The soldiers will turn on their right and continue marching.
- BATTALION/ COMPANIES --- IN TWO RANKS, UN-DOUBLE FILES --- MARCH.
When right turned and in column this command means that the even numbers step back in behind the odd numbers. If left turned swap about. Will be done marching.
- BATTALION/ COMPANIES --- IN FOUR RANKS, DOUBLE FILES --- MARCH.
The soldiers will step back alongside as before.
- BATTALION/ COMPANIES --- LEFT/ RIGHT OBLIQUE --- MARCH.
The soldiers will turn respectively in the ordered direction with the rear rank in line with the person to the left/ right of the person in the front ranks.
- BATTALION/ COMPANIES – HALT—LEFT/ CENTRE/ RIGHT DRESS-- FRONT.
The soldiers will immediately stop on halt. The next command all troops should move their heads to the respective order. They do not turn their heads back until they hear the front command.
